Hi, I have a hydroponic greenhouse, but I live in the developing world where you basically have to make everything yourself, so I don't know how much advice I can give you. I would read up on the different systems, and look at the plans to see which one fits best in your space. Check out Simply Hydroponics. I think strawberries are usually grown in a circulating system, specifically Nutrient Film Technique. Why don't you try a small system with some herbs first. My first system was some coke bottles and pvc pipes similar to picture, I grew basil.
For the nutrients, again I have to mix my own, but in the US there are tons available for hydroponics. Use them, I wouldn't recommend mixing your own for small-scale, or at all really. Don't use soil fertilizers, they're missing essential fertilizers which are found in the soil, and aren't adequate for hydroponics.
You'll need a electric conductivity meter and a ph meter. Hydroponics can be expensive initially. Water quality is important also, hard water can be a problem, to many minerals.
I'm totally hooked on hydroponics, as someone said to me once, "It's a world of fascination." I hope you enjoy it!
