I had new sod last year. I watered twice a day for about half hour each time. Sometimes I got caught up and the sprinkler was left on for an hour.

Mine was installed in July when we had high 80 to 90 degree days. It started browning and I got mad. But we did have some storms, temp cooled a bit and it started greening up. I was told later I should have watered 3x times a day.

Yes, but as DirtMechanic says you have to adjust for local conditions, you can quite often get away with just one initial water to settle it in England.
I can see one water a day in England with climate there.

420Benz is in Georgia, climate is hot and humid and sunny, similar to when my sod was laid down. That is when I told later 3x times a day due to water evoraporation from the sun and heat.

I would water heavy in the mornings and then late here in Birmingham. The water absorbs so much heat in the ir band you can pasteurize a plant or scorch leaves. The evaporation will have a cooling effect and the vapor will absorb some heat the way clouds do. Our heat index next week is 106 for multiple days.

Generally speaking, you want the roots to grow deep, so less but longer waterings each day are better. In detail it also depends on conditions of course. I would ask a local lawn care specialist .. or two.
