im growing lemon tree sapling indoors and they have somehow become infested with ants. Are there any natural deterrents that will get rid of them?

Ive heard scattering ground pepper onto the soil will help keep them away as will chilli pepper and citrus peel. does anyone here know if these work? if not can you suggest any other deterrents?

I want to avoid harsh chemicals because i have cats who like to get into everything.

cheers

If they are in the soil the only 100% way I know of to eliminate them is to use a spinosad based soil drench. Spinosad is made from a soil bacteria, is totally organic and harmless to people and pets. Mix 2 oz per gallon of water and soak the soil.
