How I came to love nature

I really love nature and plants. I just have a respect and awe for trees and plants. I think it is because of people in my life while I was growing up.

My father and I used to walk through the woods on his land when I was a child. He would talk to me about the different types of trees and would even quiz me to see if I could tell him what kind of tree a particular one was.

Other people in my family were also really into plants while I was growing up. My aunt seems to know everything about any plant. Her backyard is like a jungle. She has always given us different plants when she comes to visit.

To this day I love walking through the woods, growing different types of plants, gardening, and everything to do with nature.

Does anyone else want to share the beginning of their love of nature?

I guess my real appreciation for nature (and love for gardening) started when my dad started to bring me several plant cuttings for me to plant them in pots :) That's how I started to really like and appreciate nature and plants. Mostly thanks to my dad as well. My mom couldn't care less about nature and plants :D

Ever since I was a little girl I've always loved to be outside. My dad was always doing something with his gardens and I'd play nearby while he did. I came up with endless ways to keep myself amused when outside and would be out even in less than ideal weather. It was simply a natural progression to continue with gardening.

As for nature, I think that I've always loved it. When I was a little girl, I loved lying on grass and I remember being extremely angry and sad when my parents cut down some of our trees. It still breaks my heart when I see people who don't care about trees.
In the past, I wasn't interested in gardening though. I started loving it when my boyfriend gave my my very first miniature rose. It made me realize how wonderful it is to grow a plant:)

I've loved nature since I was very little. I loved being outside no matter what the weather was like and had to be dragged in a dusk by my mother. My brothers were big time couch potatoes but I couldn't get enough of being outside.

When I was in kindergarden my teacher had us start a garden and I have been in love ever since. My Mom grew up on a farm and kept up the idea of growing vegetables and flowers after moving to the big city.

I like to see the plants start from little seeds and become big healthy plants. I also like to take plants from people who have no idea what to do with them and bring them back to full bloom.

I grew up in Puerto Rico. Our Backyard was surrounded by fruit trees. We had Avocadoes, Acerolas, Guavas, Grapefruits, Lemons, Pumpkin, and Oranges. We also had a beautiful Oak tree that centered the yard. Its branches where as long as 30 plus feet. Our garden was amazing. In the front Mom had many varieties of flowers and bushes.

I remember those days, fondly. I loved the passion each had. Dad for the food, mom for the flowers.

Personally, i love Azaleas, Roses, Crepe Myrtles and Oleanders.

I wasn't fortunate enough to grow up surrounded by nature, but I started to appreciate nature in college because my art college would go on trips to national parks so we could draw/paint the plants and wildlife. My daughter loves trees, so it's a blessing that we live near a park now.
