I have a decent amount of open space in front of my peas in the greenhouse, and I was thinking that I'd try growing some herbs for a change of pace. I was just wondering if there are any herbs that wouldn't particularly enjoy the lack of full-on sunlight and possible high temperatures within the greenhouse? Are there any herbs that seem to thrive in a greenhouse?

Greenhouse farming is advantageous because one can control temperature, moisture and shade. It is possible to grow herbs commercially in greenhouses. Some of the best herbs to grow in greenhouses include chamomile, parsley, cilantro, chives and mints.

Most of the herbs I grow in my green house do pretty well. At one point I had 12 types of Basil and 12 other types of herbs. As to lighting... my greenhouse is 6x8 and kind of sandwiched between my house and a fence. The green house door faces south (this actually cases hot spots for plants close to the door), so the wide sides were east and west with east near a fence and west near the side of the house... overall they do fine. I have used supplemental light when growing during the winter when the days are the shortest.

For the heat I would transition from green house to shade house about the time when max inside temp high was consistently mid 80's low to mid 90's average (on average at times it would be hooter and at times cooler). I do use a little fan most of the time and as it got warmer I would use mist for cooling, a short mist (1 minute or so) every 30 - 60 minutes for cooling. Keep in mind a lot has to do with how much moisture the plants are loosing and not exclusively how hot it is. I can be hot (to a reasonable degree) and the plants can be ok as long as soil is moist and there are not loosing all there moisture via Transpiration.

I found most all herbs thrived in the green house and it makes the green house smell fantastic.
