Hi everyone! I am a relatively new gardener. I used to help my parents plant flowers when I was a kid, but the past two summers, I decided to give vegetable gardening a try. I really wanted my family to eat healthier and I knew that if the food was available in our backyard, we would be more likely to try it. (y) My main activity now is in a 4x4 square foot bed and I am looking forward to a bountiful harvest next summer!
I really hope I can get (and possibly give) some good advice in these forums.

Hello and welcome aboard! :) Sounds like you are off to a good start, what have you planted in your 4x4 bed?

Thanks for the welcomes!
Becky, I have planted spinach the last 2 springs and it did really well until the weather got warm and it bolted. I've also done green onions, thyme, lettuce, and broccoli both years. The thyme and green onions actually stayed through the winter and the lettuce came back on its own, but the broccoli never came out right. I've also tried bush beans and corn which both never worked. This year I did kale for the first time and it was awesome - it was also the only plant that I didn't start from seed. It's definitely a learning experience and I can't wait to see what each new planting brings.

Sounds ace! Mmm I love kale, especially with a Sunday roast! (y)

What are you planning for next year?

I'm definitely going to do spinach and kale again because I like green smoothies. :D I also might try peas again and green beans. I forgot, I've also done carrots which didn't do too well. I may try different species of the crops that have failed and see if they work better. I also need to start a compost pile - I'm sure that will help my veggies.
