I have a very old varity of doubled daffodils that naturalize readily. Often the buds dry up before opening or when they are not fully opened?
Does anyone have any advice on how I can prevent this?

So your saying they naturalize readily. So then you see them pop all over? and or expand, and its an early bloomer?
Part of me is thinking, depending on the length of time they been there that they need to be lifted and split and re-planted.

They bloom early, produce bulblets rapidly, and grow in clumps. I appears that you are right in that I made need to lift and divide them more often.
