Hi, all! Just thought I would throw this out there. If you purchase a $10 membership to the Abor Day Foundation, they will send you 10 bare root trees of your choice during the prime planting time for your area. Great deal, right?! That's $10 flat... No shipping cost. They will also send you member only discounts and deals. I just got an offer for 5 crepe myrtle trees with a $15 contribution. I have two crepe myrtles planted poorly by my home builder that were dead before they went in the ground and need to be replaced.... I couldn't get that $15 check in the mail fast enough! As for my 10 trees, I expect them in November-December. I ordered the California only flowering trees, but there are other options :) Here is the link if interested:

Don't expect the trees to come by semi-truck--more likely in a small envelope. I fell for the Arbor Day thing once--they sent trees that won't grow in central Texas (dogwood), they were tiny seedlings that needed to be in pots for at least two years before planting out, and were pretty poorly looking. You get what you pay for. Here is a site offering reviews http://arbor-day-foundation.pissedconsumer.com/

Yep! I've read the reviews and have seen pictures. I don't expect all of them to make it and I had planned on potting them and keeping them in my plant house, which I don't mind because I would rather acclimate them with my soil in the pot. Still a good org. to support, regardless :)

Seeds of trees in envelopes? We used to buy planting materials for vegetables and were very hopeful that we would be harvesting in a month or two. But the 3 envelopes of seeds did not yield anything, no seedlings, no sprouts whatsoever. In other words, the seeds were not fertile and they failed to germinate. My husband suspected that it was due to poor handling of the store.

That sounds like a good deal to donate to the Arbor Foundation, but as far as getting the trees, I have no place to plant them on my city property where we only have enough land for a little garden. I like the idea though for those that could use those 10 trees.

Thanks, I knew it sounded too good to be true. I' m honestly not surprised at all it is like this, a lot companies advertise their things in such a way just to make it sound like a great deal, but in reality everything ends in disappointment :(

They are not seeds, they come looking more like branches. I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that the reviews aren't always great, so I'm glad someone did. I have seen other reviews with success and some who have gotten replacements with no questions asked... Including replacements after natural disasters. You get what you pay for is right. I don't expect a miracle for a $10 contribution and wouldn't complain if they didn't make it. For a $10 donation I couldn't justify that. For me, it is totally worth a shot :)
