My wife decided she wanted some patio vegetable plants this year, even though we're still in an apartment. We happened to have some plastic litter buckets and old 5 gallon buckets that she keeps saying to just throw away, so I compromised. She's still of the opinion that "it's tacky", but has agreed that it's cost effective to get started. We decided to just do a variety of peppers and tomatoes this year, as it is something we know we'll use.

I decided to combine the drainage idea of the Dutch bucket project with the self-watering pot. The hope is that this will make it easier to keep the rock and soil layers separated throughout the growing season, providing necessary drainage as well as an overflow in case of over watering or heavy rain.
We have our seeds started and buckets mostly prepped (just need to add the potting mix), but I was looking for any feedback, recommendations, pointers, etc... Would also welcome anyone who wants to share their container/patio garden set-ups for others to see.
