Gardening in Zone 9

Do you know your garden hardiness zone? I still have trouble remembering, but today I know I am in zone 9. It's never been that big of a deal before, but now that I am gardening more and more (three gardens to tend at present), I find I have to know what I can plant when, and what to expect in terms of potential frost dates.

Looking at a frost map for my area I discovered that my city is at the center of a warm spot and the areas surrounding us in all directions are more susceptible to frost. It's quite curious, considering areas south of me should be the same or even warmer.

The map is color coded and it doesn't get pink again until the very tip of the state - a section that extends down to the Gulf. It's really odd, but I'm glad we're warmer!

Thanks for sharing this map. I forget also what zone I am in. Lately it seems like the zones have changed a little. I hope this coming summer is warmer than this past summer or the zones may have to be re-calculated.

Glad you found it useful,@Pat. I also posted the link to the plant swap group I am in on Facebook. It started a little discussion about the temperature in the city being so different from the area surrounding it. I may have to do some investigating to see why it is so much warmer here than in the rest of the area.
