Hello, I want to put an herb garden in the tray of my bird's cage top gym. The tray is 16"X16" and 1 3/4" deep.

Is this possible or is the tray too shallow?

Any thoughts on how to make a drain in it without drilling holes?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, I would think the tray would be to shallow for herbs, I think the only way to makes drains you would have to drill holes

Thank you for the reply. I could possibly make an insert to bring it up to 3" deep. Would that make a difference at all?

It might work but you still have a problem with drainage, maybe some one in the group can think of some thing.

Hmm...I wonder if I could just plant them all in square pots rather than directly in the tray. I definitely don't want any mould or anything like that as I want my bird to be able to play in it and eat them.

Pots would work, all you would need to do is water your plants in the sink and then replace them in the play gym. I would love to do some thing like that but my parrot would make short work of the pots and plants, she can be a bit of a monster at times :)

I've just got a little GCC so she can't do too much damage (I think).

That's what I'll do I think. Now I just have to decided exactly what plants. I'd like to avoid GMOs and ones that have been sprayed and whatnot too.
