There's still plenty in south Manchester. But the numbers are steadily declining.
A decade or so ago, our favourite nursery in Timperly closed and is now a housing estate.
B&Q closed its doors in Altrincham a few years ago and on 17th of this month Dobbies, formerly Wyevale will close in Altrincham. As will several of their other branches. You can bet your life, this will become another huge housing estate. The land will be sold for a fortune.

The local 'high class' garden centre closed quite suddenly recently. It has been bought by a local caravan and motor home company, but they say they are going to keep the garden they built next door and the cafe, which were both worth the occasional visit.

It’s happening here too. There are 2 multi-generational nurseries in the Pasadena area that will be closing in the next year. We lost another during the pandemic. The real plantspeople are just running out of steam and there aren’t many new ones coming along. And the Big Box competition makes it very hard for any new ones. It has never been easy, but it just seems so daunting now.
