I have a new lawn that i have been mowing. There is one side of the house that does not get much sun. This area always seems damp and the grass is browning. I am thinking this is thatching so i have tried to dig up that layer. Any ideas what i can do to fix this?? I am thinking i was waiting too long to mow or the grass clippings were wet

Looks more like brown patch.?
Maybe treat with fungicide if its a damp area?
Have you even done a soil sample?
Do you fertilize?
What type of grass is it?
If it where me ( kicking myself for waiting so long) get a soil sample off to your Local University Extension Service

If its also damp all the time might want to check drainage issues?

Thanks mac1911.

That was my first thought after additional research is to try the fungicide. The sod was only laid down 2 months ago and it was growing pretty fast but i don’t think it was fertilized.

Unfortunately, i don’t know what kind of grass it is. If i were to guess i would say Kentucky Bluegrass which is supposedly the most common in Salt Lake City area.

So soil sample yet but i figure i would at some point. I think part of the reason was my fault. I was likely watering too much and also waited to long to mow.
