Flowering Plant ID Wanted

These bloom beautiful flowers in summer but I don't know what they are! They have been planted by a previous owner. They're growing right at the base of the house, under a tree and fairly protected. I'm not sure they're normally hardy to this zone, 8a.

I'm not sure but they are very pretty.

The flower stem looks very much like that of a Snapdragon; maybe a variety of Snapdragon....

In the UK I would have gone with a foxglove.

Thank you all for the replies! I just researched snapdragon and foxglove and it's definitely snapdragon! The flowers do also resemble foxglove but the leaves are an exact match with the first.

Apparently these are in fact hardy in my zone so maybe I will plant more! Definitely an eye-catcher when in bloom.

I think they look more like a Penstemon. The leaves don’t look quite right for snapdragon

Actually, this is Obedient Plant (Physostegia virginica), also known as False Dragonhead. It is a member of the Mint Family (Lamiaceae) native to North America.
