After a weirdly warm start to November (it got to 80F degrees a little while back, which broke all previous records for Michigan) we are getting hammered with our first real winter storm today. I worked and did a bunch of driving and am happy to be back home unscathed; the roads were horrible. We have maybe 8-9 inches and it is still coming down.

My mastiff puppy just turned six months old and has never seen snow. He was all like WTF, then OMG, then FUN! :) He was pouncing and zooming all over the back yard when I let him out.

Oh, I see you live in Michigan, Beth, that makes sense that you can have snow now. I am from Ohio, recall always having snow by Thanksgiving. over here in PA, its a rarity if we have snow for Christmas Eve. Sometime not until January will we get snow. The people are so funny here, they get all anxious in driving in snow that is 5 inches. I just laugh thinking about Ohio and you just drove.
So glad you pup is enjoying the snow, does he like snow balls thrown for him?

Yes, we got first snow as well down here a little north of Toledo, OH. Not one bit enthused by it either

I'm weird, I love snow, don't even mind driving in it. :D
Seven hours later and it's still snowing though it has slowed down. I'm guessing we have close to a foot of snow right now. Breaking out the snow shovel in the morning!

LOL yes I threw a bunch of snowballs for him and he got very geeked about it!

I remember when I lived in Northern California and there was maybe an inch of snow once, very unusual - they shut down some of the highways. They just don't have the equipment to deal with snow and people have no clue how to drive in it (not that people here are great at it  ) but that's amusing, really. Snow and icy roads are just a daily fact of life for about five months out of the year.

I'm in the mid/east part of Michigan so we actually get less snow than the west and north parts, although we tend to have colder temperatures. This is called lake-effect; a term I never heard before I moved here.

Your big Puppy looks and sounds adorable. I'm glad you made back home safely. I know all to well how the roads can be on the first snow of the season. In WA the highlands have already reached 12-13 inch deep snow. So far where I'm at which is the lowlands we have had nothing but heavy rain and wind. On Monday we may get our first snow though. Stay safe and good luck girly.

Yes, Beth, I love snow also. And I don't mind driving in it either. Its the other people from this area, who were raised in PA , who get scared to drive in it or think because they have a SUV they can be stupid. So have to watch out for them. My GSD loved snow balls could not throw them fast enough for him.

Here in our place it is already snowing also in some areas but here in our city maybe it is coming soon. That is why I am excited already because I love snow too!

It looks like snow here but I don't think it is cold enough to snow. It is colder now than it was when I went to church this morning about 4 hours ago. I hope we do not get any snow until January. I am from Ohio but do not like the snow that is why I moved south although I do not consider Maryland south just warmer than Ohio.

Well it's going to melt quickly, the temperatures are supposed to creep up into the 40s and 50s over the next few days so there won't be hazardous driving conditions for Thanksgiving. Booker the humungous puppy spent a lot of time in the yard playing today and is currently snoring under my desk.

I feed wild birds year around and love to see them in the snow...there's a pair of cardinals out there right now. Time to stock up on suet cakes for them! I do mixed seed, thistle and suet cakes in winter so I get a wide variety; I've counted almost 40 different bird species. Including a neighboring hawk who sometimes gets a bird. :( But the hawk needs to eat too.

Oh wow, now that's a decent snow!! Here in Japan we might get a day or two of snow that sticks if we're lucky -- last winter we only had one snow day! It seems to vary quite a bit from year to year as to how much or little we get!

I can't wait to see first snow flakes in my town. In Serbia already fell in few places but in NIš not yet. My golden retriever and really enjoy snow and he will be thrilled when it happens. I think that would be soon because you can feel it in the air. Now i have a three year old nephew ready to jump in so this winter is going to be only fun and Olaf making :)

Snow blah yuck :poop::poop: !!! If you work outdoors and spend a lot of time driving for a living as I do you most likely understand my disdain. If it weren't for family and friends living here I would be never travel north of 35°

That being said, here is a picture of what was going on outside this weekend and another of where I was while that mess was happening.

THIS WAS EARLY IN THE DAY. IT DIDN'T STOP SNOWING UNTIL WELL AFTER DARK.
