How do you know that the soil is good if it has never been been used. I would hate to go to all the trouble to till up the soil and plant only later to find out something is lacking. The prudent thing to do is have the soil tested but gardeners have been gardening a lot longer than there has been soil testing. We do know one thing for sure and that is that all plants need NPK. I would till in a balanced organic fertilizer as I was building the garden and also adding copious amounts of organic material at the same time.I am planning a vegetable garden using soil that's never been used. We have good soil. Is fertilizer necessary the first year for tomatoes?
