Some of my neighbors have a wells in their garden and they save a heap of money on their water bills. I have thought of building one but the cost is so high that it doesn't compensate building one. How about you, do you have a well in your garden?

Do I have a well "in my garden". Nope. I have a well for my house. And use a hose to water the gardens from the house. The dug well, pump etc came with the house, it is a good water supply area. All my other neighbors also have well. We all live on properties about average of 3 aces each. There is a running creek around the area also, some have positioned a gas water pump with hose near, that can suck up some of the water for gardens that are a distance from the house, making life easier. You do have to pay for the electric to run the pump in the house to get the water up from the ground into the pipes of the house etc. Not bad a cost in general. who wants public water anyway.

We've got a natural underground water source in the wood. We bought the tubes and around 100 homes use water for free. We drink it and water the garden. People from neighboring villages takes this water too. We're lucky.:)

You're lucky! We have a natural spring water, too and had it enclosed to prevent animals from contaminating the source. It tastes sweet and soft and so much different from the public water that most of our neighbors use. Some of our neighbors even pay us for containers of drinking water because it is so much cheaper than buying purified or distilled water. As for deep wells, our local government is discouraging the practice of building one because it supposedly softens the soil and causes flooding. Building a deep well also requires permit and an annual fee although this is not strictly enforced and many still managed to construct their deep wells without the knowledge of the government agency handling the matter.

this is interesting---so @digger says above ---"building a deep well" not sure what that means.
We over here --drill for the water, then we sink the pump down into the deep, deep hole, then its tied into the house etc. The depth of the hole determines the cost of putting the well in. Under our house, there is a natural spring, with tons of water in it, so much as it comes up naturally and runs into the creek on the back side of our property.
