Do you grow onions from seed or sets?

This is my first year growing onions from seed. I've read you get better results this way. What are your all's experiences?

When I first started gardening I used onion sets. Nevery really done any good with those. Then I started buying the onion plants. Did a whole lot better with those so I don't fool with the sets anymore. The past couple years I've grown mine from seed into the onion plants and then transplanted them. I do just as well with those as I do the plants.

I am supposedly right on the border of the short day (Texas and Georgia onions) & long day (Washington and northern) onion varieties but the short day varieties seem to do better here so I stick with those.
