I have been growing some cucumbers for what seems like ages now, but they are very slow moving and seem to be very delicate. Does anyone have an ideas on what I might be doing wrong?
Thank you, I think they are struggling with the heat at the moment as there is none. I will try to keep them warm.Cucumhttp://www.durgan.org/URL/?YRAZQ 25 July 2014 Cucumber
Cucumbers are producing almost too many to process. They are picked every other day. There are two types Cross Country and County Fair.Cucumbers need heat, moisture and light.
http://www.durgan.org/URL/?OOISI Cucumbers placed in outdoor garden. They will be grown along the trellis, which keeps the fruit off the ground. By using this method harvest is about a month ahead of direct ground sowing. Three hills of Country Fair, and three hills of Cross Country
That will be their problem then, the weather is so up and down at the minute it is roasting hot one minute and freezing cold and raining the next. I kept them in a warm conservatory for a while and they went well, re-potted and they seem to have gone straight to hell, I will try to keep them inside as much as I can. Thank you!Temperature may be your problem.
Cucumbers need warmth, and, if your environment gets below 18C, that will slow them down.
Repeated swings in temperature will slow them further.
If you cannot provide an environment with controlled, reasonably warm, temperatures, then in the UK, you are best delaying even indoor sowing until at least 1st April.
It could well be, we live literally next to/in an orchard with a lot of trees and I think they are sucking the life out of almost everything apart from the radishes! Nothing is growing apart from them and sweet peas and even the sweet peas are not doing great!Could it be the soil or what they are planted near? Last year I moved my cucumbers to a different area in my yard (to make room for other veggies) and they did not do well at all.
