So a couple of weeks back our local Canadian Tire had a clearance on and while perusing the flyer I saw a product for sale I'd never seen before although I was quite familiar with the brand name. It was cricket manure and thinking about it it did make sense seeing as I was familiar with insect frass having gone through a couple of major caterpillar infestations 5-8 years back where everything was covered in frass. NPK is 7-4-3. So knowing that they had made these huge cricket producing facilities as a protein food source (yech) it made sense that they would also use the frass by product to make money. Now I normally wouldn't have purchased this but after seeing the positive reviews and the fact that it was on sale for 40% off I bought a couple of bags. So I'm just curious if anyone here has had any experience with the product, I plan on using it to make a tea to use on individual plants so I can gauge it's effect compared to plants I don't use it on. I will also compare it to another tea I make using composted chicken manure pellets. Cheers

Interesting. Learn something new almost every day here...and that certainly is a new one to me...but makes perfect sense if one has millions of crickets.

Let us know how it performs.

Yea I should have an idea by fall, one of the big differences is the amount of chitin in it compared to other manures. I saw another article on it where a bait shop in the US was raising them and selling the frass as well. I only bought 2 1kg bags so far but I see there are still some left on clearance so I may grab a couple more. Plus it's organic certified and they claim increased disease resistance so I may experiment on my heirloom tomatoes too.

It may help with repelling insects. The chitin seems to have that effect on whiteflies and may work on other insects too.
Fortunately I don't have many issues with insects when it comes to my gardens except for when we had those caterpillar plagues, but with my heirloom tomatoes early blight is always an issue and last year at a new garden I had problems with anthracnose for the first time ever so I won't be going back there again.
