Could this be a potato?

Just cleaning out a few old pots and came across this and was wondering what it was. Last summer, after harvesting the potatoes, i put a small damaged one in a pot like this, but nothing happened. I can't think of anything else but it doesn't look like a potato to me (not an expert on gardening/plants):

OH has just confirmed that it is and she is a much better gardener than me.

I posted the picture on the google picture app which seemed to think that it was a pepper!

Looks like a potato to me, but I thought it a bit pepper like (same family). Then again it looked a bit like a sprouting dahlia to me as well.
