It's December, and night-time temps are below freezing here in Southern Maine. Why is this willow leafing out? What will the plant do when spring arrives? Is this normal behavior? I am seeing other plants in the neighborhood doing the same thing.

I'm all the way down in S. Georgia. I have hardy glads coming up, all my fruit trees are already budding out and, for me, they don't bud until march. It's something to do with whatever it is that's affecting us. Wether it's climate or the tilt of the earth has changed or whatever, there's not a darn thing we can do about it.

If the buds all freeze, new buds will form afterwards. It's like when caterpillars eat all the leaves off a tree, they grow back. Nothing to really worry about.

Thank-you for putting my mind to rest--at least on that score.

nice bit of brick laying for stretcher bond :)

I can't compare seasons, but it seems way too early. They are pretty hardy, often like that in March here when there are still frosts. If it is a mild winter it might be spectacular, if not it will probably recover, but be a bit set back.
