I live in a small apartment with no balcony or yard. I saw this on Amazon the other day and thought it would be perfect as it contains basil, tomatoes and peppers. These are the things that my guinea pigs love to eat so we go through a lot of them. I think this would save money, be fun to grow and I've never had problems with Chia. I just wonder if anyone else ever tried it.

I think it looks lovely, but how long do you think a tomato or a pepper plant will be happy in a 3 inch pot?

If you are talking about this: http://www.drugstore.com/chia-chefs-garden/qxp500953 I think the idea is to start the plants inside, and then move them outside when they are too large for the windowsill.

On my windowsill I have had good luck with kale, mint, and African violets. You might have luck with other plants because you probably live in a different area than I do. During late winter we get very little light: I have no idea if you do or not!

You're right about those pots, which is why I was thinking about transplanting them later. I don't see any reason we couldn't do that and have successful plants, as long as our cats stay away from them of course LOL

My cats are a MAJOR threat to my windowsill plants! They hop up on the ledge to see if their are birds outside!

I moved the kitchen chairs away from the window to discourage them, and I have only had to clean up a mess three times this winter. The poor mint plant looks badly used, though the other plants are still in good condition!

I look forward to spring when some of my plants *AND* the cats can spend some quality time outside! The cats hate snow every bit as much as they hate rain!
