Last year I tried growing Romanesco and instead of growing heads of Romanesco the plant instead grew a whole bunch of disparate buds that never formed into a single head. How do I avoid this with the Cauliflower I am planting this year? Thanks.

Have you tested the soil? That would give you the answer to your question in all probability.

Absent that, it is a guessing game. The most likely thing I would suspect would be a boron deficiency, but it could be any number of things including other nutrient deficiencies and/or imbalances, weather, and/or watering.

Hello friend. This is a common problem and usually the problem stems from planting timing. Romanesco prefers temperatures in the mid-60s to mid-70s°F. If you plant them and have temps in the 80f-27C or higher it will cause heat stress, which can affect the quality of the heads. Also Romanesco needs at least 6-8 hour of full Sun to grow well. Timing is very important when it comes to timing Romanesco temperatures. Lastly, Romanesco needs consistent watering, in rich soil with a lot of organic matter to grow well. Good luck friend and thanks for the post.
