So I have several packs of carrot seed, ordinary commercial f1 of three different types and a pack of 'Muscade' an heirloom seed. The f1's all have use by dates which give a couple of years shelf life. The Muscade says "Carrot seed does not keep from year to year, so do sow the whole packet". It doesn't say 'This variety doesn't keep', but 'Carrot seed', like it's all and every one.
I have never had a germination problem, maybe it's because it is such small seed and you get such a quantity it doesn't matter if germination rates are low, just less thinning, maybe it's a ploy by the seed company to get you buying every year, maybe...
What do you reckon? Ever had problems with saved seed?
