So I ordered these "hibiscus" seeds on amazon. Well they don't look like hibiscus seeds to me... Maybe I'm wrong any ideas?

That is hilarious. Grow them and see!

Funny aside story, back in the day when Ebay first started, maybe around 1997ish.. I had a business that was perfect for selling on Ebay.. the problem was you had to have a certain rating on Ebay before you could start selling, and the only way to get a rating was to bid on stuff, win, an then pay. So not wanting to waste money, what I would bid on were seeds, which were often just pennies per transaction, so I could get dozens of rating just for the cost of basically postage. But like you are discovering, you sometimes don´t get what you ordered.. But for me, it made it more exciting because even sometimes when I was certain I did not get the right seeds, I still tried to grow them just to see what the heck they were.

Grow them and see!!

They sure don't look like any hibiscus seeds I've ever seen. Just a guess, but I'll bet they turn out to be zinnias.

That is hilarious! And a good idea. I only paid like a dollar for my "hibiscus" seeds. Lol I did end up ordering from a different source and got some actual hibiscus seeds. But hey I have a Lil side project now to see what these are. I enjoyed your story! Thanks for sharing.

I enjoy mystery seeds! I have a habit of collecting seeds wherever I see pretty flowers. If they don't deadhead their flowers and let them go to seed, I figure that's fair game! If I don't know what the flower is, I usually try to take a picture with my camera for later. Not always, though, because sometimes the tour is moving on.

I wind up with seeds folded in bits of paper, stuck in the corner of a bag, heck, I've come home with seed pods in my jacket pocket! Every year, I wind up growing a planter full of "Mystery seeds," because if I don't remember what they are, I don't know where to put them. :(

X3mel3705, once you can identify it, bump this thread and let us know what ya got! :D

I like mystery seeds too. I just wanted to try my hand at a braided standard hibiscus, and start from seed. I like to grow from seed it's cheaper and more rewarding, for me anyway. But I will for sure post updates. I never thought about grabbing seeds from random flowers. Sounds like a great idea! I attached a photo of the babies that resulted from those seeds. I germinated them in a paper towel and it only took over night to show and planted them Tuesday. I just took that pic a few mins ago so we'll see. Lol

Well then, some words of advice about grabbing seeds from random flowers.

For the most part, businesses don't care. Like something at the dentist's or McD's? Grab some seeds.

It is against the law to take plants from a state park, so when I wanted some seeds from their butterfly bush, I went in the Visitor's center and asked. It turned out the nice lady behind the desk had planted that bush, and she was so happy, she wrote "Butterfly bush" on the front of an envelope and told me to take all I wanted!!

It is generally frowned upon at the nurseries and greenhouses. They know what you're up to, and it is NOT giving them money.

Garden centers in the big stores (Kmart, Walmart, etc.) sadly, their employees usually don't know too much about plants. They don't know what you're doing. Just make a comment like, "Don't you guys deadhead these poor things?" And really, you're extending the bloom on that flower, giving them better opportunity to sell it. Sometimes, their plants look so sad, I deadhead them even if I don't want the seeds!! :ROFLMAO:

I tend to leave people's yards alone. If I can get a seed head from the sidewalk, I might. But people like to have their work admired, and it never hurts to knock on a door! ;) I have a nice little patch of spider wort from admiring them at a lady's yard sale. Gardeners are funny people! She told people who wanted to give her money ... to "hold on a minute," while she dug them out with a shovel! (I almost offered to dig them for her, but refrained, since I didn't know how much of it she was willing to part with.)

Happy plucking!!
