I walked past a hedge full of these last summer and took this photo thinking I need to get this into the garden somewhere!
Does anyone know what type of shrub or hedge (they were certainly using it as hedging) it is?
Thank you. That's definitely it!That looks to like Blue passionflower which is actually a vine that can easily be trained to be a hedge. According to AI:
"Passiflora caerulea, commonly known as the blue passionflower, can make for a stunning hedge! It's a fast-growing, climbing plant with vibrant blue and white flowers that attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. Here are some tips for using it as a hedge:
Here is a Wikipedia link for it:
- Support structure: Since it's a climbing vine, it will need a sturdy trellis, fence, or other support to grow on. This will help create a hedge-like appearance.
- Pruning: Regular pruning will keep it tidy and encourage dense growth. It's important to trim back excessively long vines to maintain the hedge shape.
- Location: Choose a sunny spot for planting. It thrives in full sunlight but can tolerate partial shade.
- Soil and watering: Ensure well-drained soil and water regularly, especially during dry periods. It's relatively drought-tolerant once established."
Yes, it doesn't look like a vine in your photo but it is a match on the flower.Thank you. That's definitely it!
Interesting that its actually a vine...
