Hi,
I am new to gardening and need some advice for my front yard in 9b hot and dry California Sacramento climate, clay soil.
Background: the house come with the lawn that is in a bad shape due to lack of the drought watering schedule here, and the front windows seemed to reflect heat. There is a solar panel above the window that I would like to keep clearance and keeps the light coming, and the crepe myrtle seemed to not do well but it’s only in her second year.
There is water line on the left (blue flag), sewage green lids in the middle (between the right and middle windows), and gas on the right.
I am pretty set on how to do the left and the right but would like a second opinion since I am so new to gardening and might miss something obvious.
I am having a headache about the middle lawn area because of the sewage lid. The windows kind of make the house symmetrical, but the location of the sewage lid means I might not be able to put in 3 rose bushes right under the windows and replicate that symmetry? I am not sure what’s the planting distance with those lid thing. I was also considering using planter for rose bush so I can place it on top of the lid, but not too sure. The third option was to do a quarter looking design, but I cannot think of how to do it and keep it continuously with that narrow strip (will be rock) with the water bib. If possible I would like to remove the lawn but I just not sure how to design that area with the sewage and intense heat there.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
