Commonly called the pot marigold, the Calendula flower has long been a staple in British cottage gardens.

Calendula flowers are very useful in making skin lotions, as most probably already know.

This is the original "marigold" in England. What we call "marigold" is of the Genus Tagetes, of Mexican origin. The large orange marigolds we call "Crackerjack" usually, were used a lot in religious ceremonies, such as in Los Días de los Muertos. The name "marigold" was applied to them likely because the European marigold, Calendula, also had religious significance, as reflected in its name "Mary-gold".
