Birds and Garden Plants Together

I like inviting birds into my garden but I'm also worried about the plants they will tend to eat. Since I plan on renovating the garden, I would like to place a bird feeder and a bird bath. What types of plants do you suggest that can grow in harmony with birds?

Well, in my experience succulents are not a good idea, specially if you live in a hot and dry area. The birds always tend to make little holes in my succulents! I read a while ago they do that to get some water from them! Indeed, it seemed like someone had attacked my succulents with a big needle! Little holes everywhere!
