Big pond

we wanted a large wildlife and fish pond with a bog garden . We had a lot of stone so built up in a depression, with a bog garden section separated from the main pond by a ridge and back filled with two foot of soil.

We surrounded it with flower beds and a rickety. A patio and decking area.

I love your pond!

I'm about to start building my second pond, it will be about 18" above ground and 4.5' deep. I wish I could keep it uncovered, but I share my garden with too many predators
Your pond looks lovely, I hope you'll keep adding to this showcase as time goes by and plants grow larger!

Thank you. We love it. It’s the centre piece of our huge garden . Which is gradually taking shape .
I’m not a member if the pond forum . I will take a look.

We have a visiting heron , who is magnificent and the fish seem to hide in the deep bit under the weed. Some losses but worth it to see the heron.

We made a decision to not cover it and let nature work out it’s balance.

The builder is my husband! It’s not his trade but he can turn his hand to most things. I say what I want and he comes up with the plans. I then do everything to do with planting.

We garden on over an acre of land so everything we do has to be on a big scale. Only moved in three years ago and it was pretty much a field!

Once the digging part is over the rest is not so bad, so start

and if you can't go too wide, go a bit deeper that way you still have decent water volume
