I am considering getting a few big bags of bark mulch for my borders, but I have not used it before. I am very new to gardening.

Will it work well at stopping weeds as well as keeping everything nice and cosy underneath? I want to avoid using weed killer sprays, but ensure that I can make weeding a manageable task.

Do I need to top up the bark each year? What happens if weeds get though it, do I hoe it in (and mix soil) or just pull them out?

Thank you,
Mark

Bark mulch will help but not stop weeds. For better weed control put a weed fabric down first and your mulch on top.
