Hi everyone, I'm kicking around the idea of growing my own bamboo for staking and teepee-structure purposes. Is it worth the effort? Is it feasible? What species would you recommend? Finally, any warnings? Thanks!

Bamboo can become invasive and very difficult to remove/ control.

If possible, I would suggest growing some Native American cane,
ARUNDINARIA gigantea – Canebrake Bamboo

The only bamboo native to the eastern United States.

Or perhaps you could put your bamboo in a very solid, impenetrable container, such as one made of concrete.

That's why I'm debating trying to grow it in the first place at all...I seem to have a trend of being interested in invasive-type plants  I have nearly a blank slate for a yard, so I don't want to wreck it in the first year with something I regret.

Well, fortunately Native American cane, ARUNDINARIA gigantea, is not invasive and can serve most if not all the same purposes that bamboo serves.
