Sword Fern or Fishbone fern (Nephrolepis cordifolia) will spread in moist soil. In-ground barriers may slow its spread. Clumps can be dug for division or removal as with most garden perennials. Nephrolepis cordifolia is native to much of tropical and warm-temperate Asia, Sri Lanka, Hainan, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, and eastern Australia. However, it is now also both a garden plant and adventive weed in many other tropic and warm-temperate regions.
