It always struck me as unfair that this was proscribed in the EU for use for so many garden and soil problems, as it is totally plant-based, and actually breaks down completely into plant food!
The reason it was proscribed, was that the company could not afford the £3m necessary to put it through new trials, even though they were only for beaurocratic purposes.
Anyway, I recently bought a litre at my allotment shop for the purpose of cleaning and sterilising my polytunnel and tools, and , because it is so much more expensive than Jeyes fluid, it was a right old bottle.
So old it predated the change in regulations, and the accompanying booklet, has directions for some of the now banned uses.
It took me back some years, reading about how, to minimise CLUBROOT you use a dilution of 100 water to 1 armillatox, at an application rate of 20 litres per sq metre 3 weeks prior to planting out or sowing seed, and that, since it sterilises annual weeds and makes up all deficiencies in the soil, neither herbicides nor fertilisers are required.
How, to overcome WHITE ROT in onions, again diluting 100:1, but this time using 5 litres psqm both before and after digging, again leaving 3 weeks before planting.
How, when cleaning your greenhouse/polytunnel, you could sterilise your soil against nasties, again diluted 100:1 and give it a good drench six weeks prior to planting, because on any hard surface, it will kill moss, algae, lichen and slime.
.
How, at a dilution of 50:1 you could use it to kill ANTS and WOODLICE, and at this dilution you could use it to combat REPLANT DISEASE, for BLACKSPOT on ROSES, as a WINTER TREE WASH.
Even at a dilution of 200:1 it will kill moss and liverwort in lawns.
But that was then, and this is now, and we can't do that any more.
