I found an Areca palm being thrown out. I discovered it had spider mites, which we survived. I am not a good waterer. With leaves turning brown, I wondered if I had root rot. I dug it up, no mushy roots. Repotted. Then the soil would not drain. I tried to add a top soil mixture of soil, peat, perlite. I added a Tbls of fertilizer bc the leaves were not opening and I read this might be bc it needed nutrients. Although, initially the fronds did open, they dried out and died with some kind of white fungus/mold at the base. Will the root send up new fronds? Should I water it? I have not cut last 2 the dead fronds. Thank you for your help.
