I have already been thinking about the garden and the year just started. I know I have 5 months to go, but I'm planning on getting new crops this year and I am pretty excited. I want to try out cauliflower because it didn't turn out last time and I planted my brussels too late last year so I plan on making sure those are in early enough this time around. What new crops do you plan on trying if any?

The only new thing that we are going to give a whirl this year is cucumbers, since one of our neighbors gave us a bunch last summer and suggested we grow them, as they do quite well here apparently! It's good because we eat a lot of them. We will also be replacing new tomato and basil plants, so despite being "new" plants they are things we have grown in previous summers.

I'm not sure. I'll definitely do tomatoes & peas again. I'm considering one or two others, but I really haven't decided. I wouldn't mind growing my own Pumpkins for decoration, but I don't know much about them and I don't have a lot of space to work with. .

We had tried mung beans this year for experiment only by planting a few. It bore good pods and the small beans looked really good. Now we are talking if we would plant mung beans in the extended garden. But for practical purposes, the planting should be in rows and by big volume so the effort is commensurate to the harvest. But we are somewhat hesitant because of the forecast of drought this summer.

Well, i plan to grow several cooking herbs for the first time, who knows... I might go a bit crazy and even grow some cilantro or arugula myself :) But I will definitely grow the basic cooking herbs I use most: basil, oregano, mint, thyme, rosemary and dill.

I think this year I'm going to plant chili, peppers, tomatoes, melons and various herbs (lemongrass for tea mainly), and maybe my guava tree will start to bear fruit :). I'd like to plant a whole bunch of more things but there is not enough space lol.

I live in Indiana, and last year we had a record rains that resulted in our garden being under a foot of water! This year my husband and I have been trying to be proactive in what we plant in case we get rain like we did. We are going to do more sweet corn and zucchini. They seemed to be the only thing that survived the flood. Also, more melon fruits. I am thinking if we plant them on mounds up from the ground, that we will have more success in the rains. Anyone know of good veggies or fruits that do well in rainy climate that we can try?

Not any thing new this year, just a lot of the same tomatoes, bush beans, carrots, red potatoes and a few herbs that I lost over the winter. I plant only things that I know I'll eat and the dog won't get into.

I'm trying sugar snap peas in pots (Sugar Lace II) this year. No strings, no staking, not many leaves. Saw a photo of someone growing them successfully on a NYC roof.
