Apricot trees keep dying in my father's garden

After his retirement, my father started tending the garden a lot. He has a lot of vegetables and fruits in it. However, most trees from some reason die very young. On year they are healthy, bearing fruit, and the next the are almost dead.

He, and generally people living here, call it "the stroke" (like in humans). The tree got a stroke and one side of it's branches is dead. My father prunes the dead branches, but almost nothing is left from the tree. I would like to help my father because get gets sad when his trees start dying.
