I have an Acer plant in a container on an east-facing balcony and its leaves have holes and look kind of scorched.
It looks like they're also too green due to excessive sunlight. Is this what it is or is shall I look somewhere else for clues?

It looks like it may be getting a little dry occasionally. When they are grown in containers they are more sensitive than in the ground. If things have been a bit warmer and drier than normal, that will have an effect as well.

Like cpp said it looks a little dry. The only way to know is to gently tip the plant out of the container and get a look at the roots. If the plant roots fill up the soil in the pot it may be time to up-pot into a larger container. You can use the same container it's in now just be very gentle and change the soil without damaging the roots. . See whats inside the pot.
