Mix up these ingredients
4 cups whole wheat flour. I have a flour mill and grind the wheat grain.
4 tablespoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon of salt.
8 tablespoons of butter
2 cups of milk. Any type.
Knead into a malleable ball and make small round balls and place on a non greased tray. Cook at 400F for 20 minutes.
Easy and quick to make and are a filling replacement for commercial bread.

I made these tonight, but since I was out of baking powder I used baking soda.

It was a mistake: the bread tasted slightly bitter. This was a true shame, as the bread was nice and light and otherwise very good indeed!

Note to self: BUY BAKING POWDER!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually I always use the double action baking powder and add a teaspoon of soda to neutralize any acid left over from the baking powder. Also test you baking powder by putting some in a glass of water, bubbles indicate activity. This is particularly important if the powder has been kept in the cupboard for a long period.

I love this recipe and it reminds me of something similar I baked years back; the only difference is I included oats into my recipe and it tasted more like Hobnobs when it was ready.

I am not much into baking anymore, still settling down in my new location.

Looks delicious and healthy! We have slowly switching over whole wheat bread and it is the only kind we are eating now.

Awesome recipe :) I wasn't a big fan of whole wheat anything, but now that I am older I'm really starting to appreciate the extra fiber you get in your diet when you eat that kind of things.
