Winterizing the garden consists of removing all spent vegetation, rototilling to remove weeds and to disturb over-wintering harmful insects. A green cover crop would be beneficial but my season is usually too short. Garlic and horseradish are the only two plants planted to overwinter. Asparagus is perennial and the vegetation will be cut when it dies off more. If the weather remains pleasant a cover of wood chip mulch will be applied. About ten cubic yards need be brought in. It will be scraped aside for planting in the Spring. Necessary pruning is done in the very late Fall or during the Winter.
