Or looking for the lost railway in Bridport.

Axed in 1975, and spured on by a diary entry of 1976 saying "Went to Bridport, someone had nicked the station." I decided to have a look at what remains.

This bit of track is now an allotment, wonder if they steam their vegetables.

Much of the track is now a cyclepath.

Although the main station is now a supermarket, the West Bay terminal survives as a café

Oh, what we have lost! There are still traces of tram tracks in the small town near us. Until the late 40's, one could get on a tram which would take you to the "city" about 25 miles away, which also had good public transportation. Now the county authorities are trying to figure out how to get a van service going to transport people from our little town to the "city." Of course, once they get there the folks will be at the mercy of a very sketchy bus service.
At least your buildings still stand, and are being used.

It's very sad, we had most of our rail network decimated in the 1960's

Utter madness, nearly everything goes by road now and traffic congestion costs the economy a fortune

Our local councils have been buying back the land/tracks axed under the Beeching cuts, with the aim of building tram links throughout Manchester. I dread to think how many hundreds of Millions have been wasted destroying so much infrastructure .

And think how many non urgent goods could be travelling by canal, had the railways not bought up and bankrupted most of them

One horse can pull the equivalent of a lorry load when it's on water.

I remember Trolley buses in Birmingham when I was little :)

Very true!

We used to live a stones throw from the Bridgewater canal through Manchester - when I first moved here it was undergoing some major repair work and cleanup. Around 10 years ago there was a big breach nearby which drained the entire section we lived next to - was incredible to see all the crap that people just thrown in there :(.

Trains were such a beautiful mode of transportation, but have all but disappeared in most places and replaced with those fast paced ones. They are turning old railway parked where I live into hiking trails now. There is a dinner and train ride event that sometimes happens in my state and I would love to go on it someday.
